SDET Software Development Engineer in Test, with Data and ETL

    Washington, DC metro area

    Ref#2018-1487

For a large financial services client, we are seeking an SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) to do automation testing for a 1 year or longer project.   The hired candidate should be a tester who does automation, as opposed to an automater who does testing, who can lead the test automation effort within the parameters of a defined framework and educate their peers.  The primary need for this skillset revolves around testing shared services, the Agile circle of excellence, the project quality office, application life cycle management, release management, and development tools.

This SDET will be working on a project to shift data from traditional data stores to new data stores, so should have experience doing automation testing around data transformation and ETL.  The data team is creating instances from the new stores and the data has to be ported properly, so the SDET will test those rules.  For that, SAS is desirable, as the SDET will be doing simple compares and SQL executions and verifying results against the systems’ results.

    Responsibilities

    More junior SDET (2-4 years):

    • Work closely with engineering and product team to design and develop automated test methodologies under the direction of more senior staff.
    • As part of a development team, contribute to the writing of actionable, testable product requirements in the form of user stories.
    • Apply coding expertise to develop and maintain test tools and frameworks to validate unit, integration and functional tests of the system.

    More senior SDET: 4-6+ years

    • Facilitate the design and development of automated test methodologies, collaborating with engineering and product teams to implement shift left techniques on test design and automation.
    • Write actionable, testable product requirements in the form of user stories based on input from product development team.
    • Leverage leadership and coding expertise to lead product development team in the development and maintenance of test tools and frameworks to validate unit, integration and functional tests of the system.
    • Support test engineering efforts to implement enterprise frameworks to enhance overall testing capabilities.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
    • 2-6+ years of hands on experience leading/implementing test automation for enterprise applications (web, SOA, ETL, and backend).
    • Requires experience with data and ETL.
    • Demonstrated SQL proficiency; SAS experience is preferred.
    • Proficiency with programming languages (Java, Groovy).
    • Proficiency with open source automation tools (Selenium, Cucumber, Gherkin).
    • Experience writing user stories and creating test cases.
    • Experience doing non-GUI based testing.
    • Proficiency with open source test frameworks.
    • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (Jenkins, Go).
    • Experience with build tools (ANT, Maven, Nexus).
    • Experience with SCM tools (SVN, ClearCase), SQL (Oracle), project management tools (Rally, Jira, HP ALM).
    • Experience with UI automation using RIT.
    • Experience with Agile and Waterfall software development models.
    • Prefer experience in financial services industry.
